I have heard (and I tend to believe) that the pineal gland goes active in most people around the age of 5 for about a year. Then it goes dormant again until adolescence. For some reason this is often associated with sexual attraction memories around the age of 5, followed by complete lack of interest in sex, and then a renewed interest at puberty. The intricacies of brain chemistry and the pineal gland are beyond me to explain (and there is not enough space here anyhow).
However, your notion of what was available would still not answer the chicken and egg question of if women started wearing high heels first or if men were attracted to them first (assuming that there was some notion of sexual imprinting at a young age).
I was not the clingy type (more of the run away and try to catch me type), so I tend more towards the notion that high heels are inherently attractive.

Chastity really works for me...in that I don't want it. It therefore acts as a tremendous control.
