  I am one of those who think that the hand is too delicate to be subjected to the cane, but I have certainly used the strap for punishment on the palms.
  
  This was mostly in a student - tutor setting, not domestically

    I have found that except in a few cases in scotland hand punishment is mostly the domain of the school room or tutor. As a boy if given the choice at school cane on the backside or hand Id take it on the hand, less embarassing to hold out your hand.
